The Castle Heessen looks back on a long history. Built in the 1360s, it saw many noble families come and go. It also changed its form several times over the centuries. From the four-leaf water tower it turned to a Gothic mansion, later to a three-bladed construction characterized by classicism elements. Its present Neo-Gothic appearance received the building through the conversion from 1905 to 1907. Since the 50s, it is used as a private boarding and day school. Nevertheless, guided tours through the castle grounds are possible by prior arrangement.

Before in 1984 the regional garden show took place in Hamm, only a former colliery could be seen at the place where nowadays the Maximilian Park can be found. Since its opening, the park is very popular. Children will find a paradise with several playgrounds around here, adults can enjoy the numerous events, concerts or recent performances by comedians. During your walk, you certainly encounter at some point the landmark of the park and the city - the glass elephant. With its 35 metres high, it sits enthroned obviously in the middle of the park. Through its trunk you can reach the top, where you will not only find a small garden, but also a beautiful view.

The Sri Kamadchi Ampal Temple is definitely worth seeing! It is not only the second largest Hindu temple in Europe, but also the largest, which was built in the Dravidian style. The inauguration took place in 2002, but its history begins much earlier. Many civil war refugees from Sri Lanka were seeking refuge in Germany since 1983. Among them, was the priest Sri Siva Paskarakurukkal; he built the first temple in 1989 in the basement of his apartment building. As the community grew steadily, the premises had to be changed several times until the present temple was finally built. The highlight is the annual temple festival in May/June with 15,000 participants.
